Clinical Hypnotherapist

Vibha Jain

Fifteen years of listening to people describe the same frustration in different words: “I know exactly what I should be doing. I just don’t do it.”

My work sits in the gap between knowing and doing — the part of weight management that has almost nothing to do with information and almost everything to do with habit, emotion and circumstance.

People do not need to be told that biscuits are not vegetables. They need help with the moment at 9 pm when the day has been long and the biscuits are two metres away.

How I work, and why

Most people who come to me have already succeeded at losing weight — often several times. What has not worked is keeping the change in place once life resumed its normal difficulty. That pattern tells me something useful: the problem is rarely knowledge, motivation at the outset, or effort. It is what happens to a plan when it meets a bad week.

So sessions begin with understanding rather than instruction. Before anything else, I want to know the specific shape of your pattern — when it happens, what precedes it, what it does for you, and what has already been tried. Only then does it make sense to talk about approach. A plan built without that information is a guess, however confidently it is delivered.

From there the work is behavioural. We look at the cues that reliably precede eating you would rather not do, at the emotional work food might be performing, and at the internal narrative that turns one deviation into an abandoned week. Hypnosis is the tool that makes rehearsing a different response vivid and relatively unargued-with. It is not the point in itself.

What I will not do

  • Promise a specific weight loss, a timeframe, or a guaranteed outcome.
  • Suggest that hypnotherapy replaces medical care, medication, nutritional advice or psychological treatment.
  • Sell a long package before I understand whether it is the right tool for you.
  • Use shame as a motivator — it produces short bursts of compliance and long-term avoidance.
  • Continue sessions that are not helping. If it is not working, I would rather say so.

What the room is like

Three things I try to hold to

Non-judgement, meant literally

Nobody arrives at a difficult relationship with food through stupidity or weakness. Habits form because they worked at some point. I am interested in what a behaviour has been doing for you, not in whether it was a good idea. For many clients this is the first time they have described these patterns out loud without editing them.

Confidentiality without qualification

What is discussed in a session stays there. No detail is shared, quoted, published or used as a testimonial. You will never find your story on this website, anonymised or otherwise.

Honesty about limits

Hypnotherapy is useful for a particular slice of the weight-management picture. It is not a treatment for eating disorders, a substitute for medical investigation of unexplained weight change, or a replacement for psychological therapy where that is what is needed. Where a different professional is the right first step, I will say so — including when that means you do not become a client.

Background

A practice built around one question

Why do capable, motivated, well-informed people repeatedly do the thing they had firmly decided not to do?

Beginnings

An interest in why behaviour so often disagrees with intention led to formal training in hypnotherapy and, from there, to a practice that increasingly concentrated on eating behaviour — the area where the gap between knowing and doing shows up most visibly and most painfully.

Specialisation

Over 15+ years the work narrowed towards weight management, emotional eating and habit change. Group demonstrations and workshops sit alongside the one-to-one practice, though the individual sessions remain the substance of the work.

Today

2,400+ sessions later, the approach has become steadily less prescriptive and more diagnostic — more time spent understanding the pattern, less time spent applying technique to a problem that has not yet been properly described.

What actually happens the first time

  1. We talk, at length

The initial consultation is mostly conversation. Your history with weight and food, what has been tried, what tends to happen, what you would like to be different. You are encouraged to ask anything, including sceptical questions.

  2. I explain what I think is going on

You will get a plain description of the pattern as I understand it and an honest view of whether hypnotherapy is a reasonable tool for it — including if the answer is no.

  3. If it fits, we begin

The hypnotherapy portion is guided relaxation in a comfortable chair. You remain aware, you can speak, and you can stop. Most people describe it afterwards as unremarkable and deeply restful, which is exactly right.

  4. You leave with something to notice

Not homework exactly — usually a specific thing to pay attention to between now and the next session, because the useful information lives in your ordinary week rather than in the room.

Why there are no testimonials here yet

Weight and eating are private subjects, and a testimonial is only meaningful if it is genuine and freely given. Rather than publish invented quotations or stock photographs of strangers, this section is left empty until real clients choose to provide a review in their own words and give explicit written permission for it to appear.
